Donald R. Caldwell,
Chairman and CEO of Cross Atlantic Capital Partners


 

Donald R. Caldwell is founder and chairman of Cross Atlantic Capital Partners. Don oversees the operations of all of Cross Atlantic’s offices and focuses a significant amount of his time on the growth of the Cross Atlantic franchise through fund raising, network development, and deal flow. He works closely with several portfolio companies, including: Brainspark, Kanbay, Mobile Cohesion, and Rubicon Technology. Prior to the formation of Cross Atlantic in March 1999, he was president and chief operating officer of Safeguard Scientifics, Inc. (NYSE: SFE). Additionally, he served as chairman of Safeguard's investment committee and led the formation of SCP Private Equity Partners (a $265 million late stage venture investment fund) and Pennsylvania Early Stage Partners (a $50 million seed and early stage fund).

Don held a number of executive and financial positions, including chief administrative officer of a predecessor company of Cambridge Technology Partners, Inc. (NASDAQ: CATP), a provider of information technology consulting and software development; and partner in the national office of Arthur Young & Co., a predecessor of Ernst & Young, LLP.

Prior to joining Safeguard, Don held an executive position of a predecessor company of Cambridge Technology Partners, a provider of information technology consulting and software development; and was a partner in the national office of Arthur Young & Co., a predecessor to Ernst & Young, LLP. Don serves on several boards of publicly and privately held companies and civic organizations, including Diamond Cluster, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTPI), Quaker Chemical Corporation (NYSE: KWR), Kanbay International (NASDAQ: KBAY), Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (Chairman), Philadelphia Orchestra Association, and the Committee for Economic Development.

Don is a CPA in the State of New York and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Babson College and an MBA from the Graduate School of Business at Harvard University. He is located in the Radnor office.


Dick Corl,
President of
PayQuik, Inc.

Mr. Corl has been an innovator and leader in the Electronic Payments Industry for over 25 years. In 1976, Mr. Corl co-founded the TeleCheck Services network, which today is the leading company in the Check Acceptance Industry and is now a division of First Data Corporation.  He sold this multi-million dollar business to a NYSE company in 1983, and thereafter held senior executive positions until 1992.

I
n 1992, Mr. Corl became a co-Founder of Princeton eCom Corporation, a leader in the Electronic Bill Payment Industry.  Mr. Corl played a key role in negotiating the early relationships with Discover Card, Sears, First Data Corporation and First USA.  Mr. Corl’s early understanding of the strategic innovation of building connectivity to the bill senders accounts receivable systems was key to Princeton’s success and has no equal, today.

Mr. Corl played a significant role as Princeton eCom moved into Internet activities and subsequently delivering the first consumer bill for payment over the Internet.  Lastly, Mr. Corl spearheaded the initial capital raising activities thus providing the critical resources to expand all the aspects of the business.  During his time, he served as Executive Vice President from June 1992, Secretary from May 1995 and Director from September 1998 until August 2000.


Today, Mr. Corl maintains a strategic senior role in the continued growth and development of young innovative, leading edge companies in the Electronic Payments Industry. 
He serves as a Managing Director of ePay Capital Partners, a national consulting and financing concern, he plays a critical role aiding in the growth, development and industry positioning of innovative electronic payment companies. ePay's national consulting and financing services have successfully benefited many publicly traded and privately held companies.

In addition to his ongoing role as Observer on the Board of Directors of Princeton eCom Corporation, Mr. Corl is an Advisory Board Member of DevonIT, is a Member of the Board of Directors of both C/Base, Inc and PayQuik Corporation, and is a Consultant to the senior management of EcomXML, Inc.

Mr. Corl has been a frequent presenter at many industry forums held by National Automated Clearing House Association NACHA), Bank Administration Institute (BAI), American Bankers Association (ABA), Association for Financial Professionals (AFP), Treasury Management Association (TMA), and the Federal Reserve.  Mr. Corl received a BA from the University of Akron.


Lucinda Duncalfe Holt,
President & CEO of TurnTide, Inc.

 

Lucinda has over 15 years of experience as a leading executive with both start-ups and global Fortune 500 companies.  As CEO and President of TurnTide, Lucinda oversees the overall direction of the company, as well as guiding the company's senior management team.

 

Prior to leading TurnTide, Lucinda was CEO and President for Destiny WebSolutions, a prominent software and services provider to large financial institutions. In the six years she led Destiny, the company grew from $250,000 to $25 million in annualized revenue. After two rounds of venture capital, Destiny attained profitability in 2000 and was named to the Fast 500 in 2001 and 2002, as well as attaining a ranking of 32nd on Inc. Magazine's "Inc. 500." Lucinda's experience also includes management positions for American Express and SEI Investments, as well as Automated Call Processing and Infonautics.

 

Lucinda is an established CEO who won both the Ernst and Young "Entrepreneur of the Year" award and the Eastern Technology Council's Enterprise Award for "CEO of the Year" in 2001. Also that year, Consulting Magazine named her America's 17th "Most Influential Consultant." She is a regular speaker at industry events and is often quoted in top trade publications.

 

Lucinda earned an MBA from the Wharton School in Entrepreneurial Management, where she is still active as an Entrepreneur in Residence, and graduated cum laude from University of Pennsylvania. She serves on the Boards of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and Innovation Philadelphia, where she is an active member of the Investment Committee.


Rob McCord,
Chairman of the Eastern Technology Council

and Managing Director of PA Early Stage

Rob McCord serves as Chairman of the Eastern Technology Council, a consortium of more than 1,200 technology-oriented companies.  In addition, he is also a Managing Director of PA Early Stage, having co-founded the fund in 1997.

At PA Early Stage, Rob has specialized in business development for portfolio companies, and his high profile in Greater Philadelphia has attracted tremendous deal flow.  At the Technology Council, Rob helps provide contacts, capital, and information for senior executives. The Council also provides innovative educational and financial services, discounts, publications, and programs.

Rob also co-founded and serves as a Principal of the $20 million Eastern Technology Fund, which provides seed and early-stage funding for technology companies in the Eastern Corridor. The Eastern Technology Fund is a feeder fund to PA Early Stage, and PA Early Stage is entitled to co-invest in all Eastern Technology Fund portfolio companies.

Previously, Rob served as Vice President of Safeguard Scientifics (NYSE: SFE), specializing in business development for portfolio companies owned by the publicly traded venture capital provider. Before joining Safeguard, Rob spent a decade on Capitol Hill where he served as chief of staff, speechwriter, and budget analyst in a variety of Congressional offices. He specialized in budget and deregulatory issues, and as CEO of the bipartisan Congressional Institute for the Future, McCord managed a staff that tracked legislation and provided policy analyses and briefings.


Rob has also taught on adjunct faculty at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, and he has worked widely with businesses as a lecturer and strategy consultant, focusing on areas where business, politics, and technology overlap. On the paid lecture circuit, Rob has spoken to hundreds of organizations, including Fortune 500 companies and leading trade associations. Rob still frequently leads strategy sessions and provides provocative briefings that highlight emerging challenges, new technologies, and competing forecasts.

 

Mr. McCord received his bachelor's degree, with high honors, from Harvard University and his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.


Joe Watkins,
Director of Hill Solutions, LLC

With over thirty years of experience in politics, finance, and strategy consulting, Joe Watkins is well prepared for the diversity of challenges facing him as a director of Hill Solutions. Before joining Hill Solutions, Mr. Watkins served as managing director and principal of MDL Capital Management firm, managing over $4 billion in assets, with offices in Pittsburgh , Philadelphia and New York City . Prior to MDL, Mr. Watkins was President of Advent Capital Management Partners until its merger with MDL Capital.

Before entering the financial services industry, Mr. Watkins ran his own strategic advisory consulting firm in Philadelphia . He opened the firm in 1991 after serving as associate director at the White House Office of Public Liaison during President George H. Bush 's administration. Mr. Watkins ' introduction to politics came in 1981 when he joined the staff of newly elected U.S. Senator Dan Quayle as the Assistant State Director. In 1984, he was tapped to run for the U.S. House of Representatives from Indiana 's 10th congressional district but was defeated in the general election by the incumbent. He returned to Pennsylvania and served as an assistant to the President of the University of Pennsylvania until his enlistment in the 1988 Bush Campaign and his subsequent transition to the Bush Administration.

A native of Bayside, New York , Mr. Watkins holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Princeton Theological Seminary. Mr. Watkins serves on numerous boards including the Middlesex School Board of Trustees, the Eastern Technology Council, and Youth EnterNet of America. He is also pastor of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church , the oldest African-American Lutheran Church in Philadelphia .  Mr. Watkins has been featured in Ebony Magazine as one of the "Fifty Young Leaders of the Future" and was recently profiled in the book "Men of Courage," which highlights leading African-American men.
